Andres Serrano
Born in 1950 in New York City (USA). Lives and works in New York
Born to parents originally from Honduras and Cuba, Serrano is primarily a photographer known for his photographs and bodily portraits.
Raised in a strict Catholic household, his work primarily highlights social problems and addresses questions linked to sex and religion, all the while maintaining a strong connection with European culture and ancient art (which he happens to collect).
Certain of his works have elicited strong negative reactions, particularly among Catholics and conservatives.
This gold piece, Crucifix Ring, fabricated by the Atelier Bermudes in Paris in 2015, represents for the artist, through the cross, the undercover object found in any flea market, which is actually the worst instrument of torture.
