Afro Basaldella known as AFRO
Born in 1912 in Udine (Italy). Died in 1976 in Zurich (Switzerland).

Italian painter famous for his abstract paintings which synthesize cubist and futurist techniques. After a first trip to New York in 1950, he was influenced by the work of abstract expressionists, Arshile Gorky and, later, Willem de Kooning. He painted murals for the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1937 and then for the UNESCO Headquarters in 1958.
