Gio Pomodoro
Born in 1930 in Orciano di (Italy), deceased in 2002 in Milano (Italy)
Close to surrealism and to abstract expressionism, Giò Pomodoro worked using materials in relation to space and nature, mixing shapes that he discovered in antique pieces with modern mechanical geometry.
He enjoyed using bronze, gold, marble, and plastic, most notably in the spectacular pieces of jewelry, which he created with his brother Arnaldo. Giò Pomodoro’s first jewels were created in the 50s, and inspired by Byzantine culture, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance.
In the 60s, he collaborated with his brother-in-law, Giancarlo Montebello to produce small editions in Milan.
