Born in 1921 in Marseille (France), deceased in 1998 in Paris (France)

César defined himself as “an artistic welder, absolutely self taught”.
In the early 1950s, due to of a lack of funds, he used materials found in public dumps to create his sculptures.
In 1960, he participated in the creation of the New Realist movement, and from this date forward began to make his first “Compressions”, which brought him public recognition and fame.
