Raymond Hains
Born in 1926 in Saint-Brieuc (France), deceased in 2005 in Paris (France)

In 1949, Hains began a decade of contemplation of lacerated posters through a photographic lens, in which he discovered their conceptual and artistic wealth. Starting in 1960 and for a very short time, he joined the New Realists with his friend Jacques Villeglé.
Plays on language had always interested him and at the end of the 60s, he explored puns – both visual and verbal – in his unlikely ” interlocking stacks”. His work has been exhibited at the Documenta, Cartier Foundation, the Pompidou Center as well as in the Do-it-yourself department of the BHV.
