Dorothea Tanning
Born in 1910 in Galesburg, Illinois (USA), died in 2012 in New York (USA)

Painter, sculptor, writer and publisher, Dorothea Tanning also designed theatrical sets and costumes for Ballets and other spectacles.
In 1946, she becomes the fourth wife of Max Ernst who rapidly introduces her to his surrealist friends from whom she learns the language of her plastic art.
In the 1950s her paintings express female fantasmes that originate from “entire individuals” and not only the the projection of men's desires.
