Lucio FONTANA
Lucio Fontana
Born in 1899 in Rosario de Santa Fe (Argentina), deceased in 1968 in Varese (Italy)
He attempted to explore all the aspects of matter in order to reach his goal of “purified art”. In 1946, he publishes the “Manifesto Blanco”, which announces the end of painted canvas.
He tries to appropriate monochrome work, by tearing and slashing his canvases. He was one of the first artists to speak of “conceptual” art, that privileges ideas to the work itself.
